It’d be impossible not to know about it in at least passing while you play the game. And while I never was one to delve much into the fluff for the universe, I certainly knew what the Horus Heresy was. So yeah, I’ve got quite a history with the setting. I still have some of my Orks, in a tackle box sitting in my living room.

I started in 2nd edition and played right up until 4th. Warhammer 40k was my original miniatures game I got into the hobby with. Now I’ve had a chance to play the game some and it’s time to give you a look at how it works. Games Workshop has been kind enough to send me a copy. The Betrayal at Calth box set lets you play out those claustrophobic battles in the tunnels beneath the planet’s surface. One of the biggest events in the Heresy was the Betrayal at Calth when the Ultramarines fought the Word Bearers. The wars that would rage on from this split will last at least 10 millennia. It takes place during the tumultuous times of the Horus Heresy, when the various Space Marine chapters split apart, some of them staying with the Emperor, and others following Horus and converting to the powers of Chaos. Games Workshop has a brand new stand-alone board game available. The Horus Heresy Book 9 – Crusade is a 208-page, full-colour, hardback expansion book for the Horus Heresy game and requires a copy of The Horus Heresy: Age of Darkness Rulebook to use. – Army list additions for Space Marines, Solar Auxilia, Imperialis Militia, and Cults – Legiones Astartes Appendix: Night Lords – special rules, wargear, units, and Characters – Legiones Astartes Appendix: Dark Angels – special rules, wargear, units, and Characters – A look at the Night Lords and their descent into heresy – A detailed background of the brutal Thramas campaign The book also features four new missions that let you recreate parts of the Thramas campaign, and new options for campaigns including Grand Stratagems, pressing Tactical Advantages and Warlord/Named Character deaths.

As the Night Haunter slips into total madness, can Lion El'Jonson defeat his brother, or will Thramas burn in the name of the Warmaster?Ĭrusade contains extensive background on the Thramas campaign fought between the Dark Angels and the Night Lords, and it delves into the history, traditions and heraldry of both Legions. What follows are some of the most vicious conflicts of the entire heresy, with no quarter given on either side. The Night Lords begin a war of terror in the Thramas System and the Dark Angels race to stop them. Rules for using Lion El'Jonson in games of The Horus Heresy can be found in The Horus Heresy Book Nine – Crusade.Īs the Warmaster Horus sets in motion his plans to conquer Terra, a vicious and bloody battle breaks out on the Eastern Fringe. He is supplied with a 40mm gaming base, which slots into an 80mm display base. The Primarch of the Dark Angels is supplied in 44 resin components, including a choice of two heads and a choice of sword and accompanying scabbard. This slots into a larger display base which creates a diorama where he is surrounded by defeated (or soon to be defeated) Night Lords. His gaming base features Lion El'Jonson standing atop a flight of rocky steps. You can also decide whether the Primarch of the I Legion wears the legendary Lion Helm to complete his armour, known as the Leonine Panoply, or he goes bare headed. He can be assembled wielding either the Lion Sword or the Wolf Blade and even comes with a different scabbard for each. Lion El'Jonson is sculpted in the midst of battle, swinging his sword down to slay the enemies of the Emperor. During the Great Crusade, under his command, the remorseless Dark Angels acted not for glory and honours but only for victory, to vanquish their foes and to leave the enemies of Mankind in quiet and forgotten ruin. His was the task of rooting out those threats which the Imperium most feared, and he undertook it with peerless valour. Lion El'Jonson was regarded as the most pragmatic and ruthlessly efficient commander of the Great Crusade.
